Pokemon Tournament Battle Pokemon Sun and Moon Coming to Nittendo - The 3DS is also getting Virtual Console releases of Pokémon Gold and Silver, not available on the Switch because of course, the Switch has no Virtual Console. The Switch, which some were hoping would be the star of this announcement, gets a version ofPokkén Tournament, a fighting game spinoff. Also, Game Freak should be working on it. I'm now a full-on Switch convert, and the slick little machine has become my favorite place to play the limited selection multiplatform games it has. Tempting to think that Nintendo's online service could actually be the Netflix-style Virtual Console people have wanted for years. There is still no mainline Pokémon game on the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo remains utterly silent about Virtual Console. Virtual Console will be weird, we'll have to wait too long for the first realPokémon game on the Switch, Smash Bros. will probably take too long, etc. Nintendo is still Nintendo, for better and for worse.
This is what Nintendo doubling down on the 3DS looks like: Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, revamped versions of last year's Pokémon Sunand Moon roleplaying games, are headed to the company's dedicated games handheld on November 17. Like digging into the hat trick Nintendo's attempting to pull off with edgy, competitive games like Arms (June 16), Splatoon 2 (July 21) and now Pokkén Tournament DX (September 22), all timed to correspond roughly with the start and end of summer 2017. With all the heavy hitters coming for the Switch in 2017 alongside The Pokémon Company's own new smartphone games, to say nothing of the latter's expansion plans for Pokémon Go, neither needs a Switch port of a contemplative, involuted 2016 3DS roleplaying game to buoy profits or put wind in sails.
Nintendo Switch owners are not getting any version of Sun and Moon. During a Nintendo Direct video stream today, the Japanese game company announced that Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon are coming to the 3DS. The Ultra versions are releasing on November 17.
“We would like to address rumors based on a clerical error on the Pokémon press site; Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are coming exclusively to Nintendo 3DS family of systems and are not due for release on Nintendo Switch,” Nintendo told GamesBeat. Nintendo often releases updated versions of a Pokémon game with some improvements and new features.
The update will feature 5 new Pokemon - Darkrai, Scizor, Empoleon, Croagunk and Pokemon Sun and Moon's owl archer, Decidueye. Also on September 22, the original versions of Pokemon Gold and Silver will be released for Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console.
Update: The Pokémon Direct has come and gone and though we are indeed getting a Pokémon title for the Nintendo Switch, it's not Pokémon Stars.
Following its traditional release route of releasing non-mainline titles to handheld while keeping mainline games on smaller handhelds, The Pokémon Company has announced that it'll be releasing Pokken Tournament Deluxe to Nintendo Switch on September 22.
There'll also be the expected update to Sun and Moon released, but rather than a single title falling under Pokémon Stars for Switch, this will be two more releases for Nintendo 3DS with the names Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
Though there’s been no official confirmation that a game called Pokémon Stars is coming to the Nintendo Switch, we do know that a Pokémon game will make its way to the console eventually.
- The much-rumored debut of the Pokémon franchise on Nintendo Switch.
- Nintendo Switch of course!
Main series producer, Junichi Masuda, doesn’t discount it and Pokémon Company CEO confirms.
Adding fuel to the rumor fire, Eurogamer published a report late last year that said multiple sources had confirmed a new version of Pokémon Sun and Moon was being developed for the Switch under the code named Pokémon Stars.
According to the report, this third title was developed alongside Sun and Moon for 3DS and already had feature working versions of Sun and Moon content.
The line of merchandise
Game Freak pushed the Nintendo 3DS to its absolute limits with Pokémon Sun and Moon (to the point where 3D support had to be removed). The graphics and animations in Sun and Moon were already excellent, definitely the best we’ve seen so far from a Pokémon game, but moving to Nintendo Switch could very well allow for sharper character and environment models and much more expressive character faces.
For a long time now, the Pokémon games have been developed for Nintendo’s DS handhelds which has given developers two screens over which to spread the game’s UI. A mainline title
Though the Pokémon Company has confirmed that it’s planning to release a title for the Nintendo Switch, this doesn’t guarantee a mainline title.
Traditionally, Nintendo has used its home consoles for Pokémon games such as Stadium, Snap and Pokken Tournament and kept its mainline titles on handheld devices.
It’s basically a console that allows Game Freak to retain the player connectivity offered by handhelds while accessing overcoming the graphical and processing limitations of the 3DS.
Admittedly, Pokémon Sun and Moon’s story was pretty well set up for some kind of sequel. The Festival Plaza was an odd addition to Sun and Moon. New Pokémon
