Lotus has revealed its latest range-topping Exige — the Cup 430.

Exige Cup 430 is 6.8kg lighter than any other in the range as a result, and has a power-to-weight ratio of 401bhp per tonne. All of this has led to the Exige Cup 430 becoming the fastest production car around Lotus’ Hethel test track, with a lap time of 1:24.8 — 1.2 seconds faster than the previous record-holding Lotus 3-Eleven. As a general rule, sport-utility vehicles are heavy. Also as a general rule, the exquisite sports cars from Lotus are light.

How exactly will Lotus tackle this dilemma?

With Lotus under the umbrella of Chinese automaker Geely, the funds and expertise are certainly there to create a more mainstream lineup of Lotus vehicles

Though mainstream offerings are in the works for Lotus – including electric vehicles – Gales is adamant that the company will stick to its core values as a company of lightweight performance machines.

To balance the downforce front and rear, the new front splitter with trailing lip separates the airflow under the car so that new air curtain elements int the front clam panel move air though to the front wheel cavities to help reduce turbulence and drag generated by the front wheels.
The front louvres reduce the pressure within the front wheel arches, further increasing downforce, and the cut-out sections behind the rear wheels, also reduce wheel arch pressure.
